The National Anti-Doping Center is launching a new information and education series on Instagram entitled “Doping Case”, which will examine real anti-doping rule violation cases from the world of sport.

Each case is more than the story of an individual athlete. It provides an opportunity to explain, through practical examples, how anti-doping rules are applied, which circumstances are taken into account when a case is reviewed, and what consequences may result from an anti-doping rule violation.

As part of the series, NADC will provide concise and accessible explanations of:

• what happened;
• which anti-doping rule was violated;
• which circumstances were relevant to the case;
• what decision was issued;
• what athletes and their support personnel can learn from the case.

The first edition of “Doping Case” focuses on Polish tennis player Iga Świątek. Trimetazidine was detected in her doping control sample, and the subsequent investigation established that the source was contaminated melatonin medication. The case demonstrates why anti-doping proceedings consider not only the presence of a prohibited substance, but also its source and the athlete’s degree of fault.
