16 October 2024

On October 16, the second Anti-Doping Summit of Central and Eastern European Countries kicked off in Belgrade, the capital of the Republic of Serbia.

The summit is attended by the heads of anti-doping organizations from 27 countries, the President of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Witold Bańka, other WADA officials, the Minister of Sports of the Republic of Serbia Zoran Gajić, and experts in anti-doping activities.

The discussions at the summit focus on issues of global and regional cooperation, the prospects of adopting the new World Anti-Doping Code, and the International Standards for Anti-Doping Activities, which will come into effect in 2027. A significant part of the discussions is devoted to anti-doping education as a key mechanism in preventing anti-doping rule violations.

Heads of National Anti-Doping Organizations (NADOs) exchange views on best practices in organizing and conducting testing, result management, and investigations into doping rule violations, which share common principles and approaches, despite regional differences.

"The Ukrainian NADC holds a prominent position in the global anti-doping infrastructure today. It is a modern anti-doping organization developing in line with best practices in internal governance and operational activities. The results we have achieved over the past 18 months, especially in establishing cooperation with key stakeholders such as WADA, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Parliamentary Committee on Youth and Sports, international and national sports federations, foreign anti-doping organizations, and key national training and sports facilities, are impressive. We highly appreciate both the constant support and the positive evaluations of our work from WADA, particularly regarding our testing and result management, as well as our educational and informational anti-doping activities. Our primary focus is always on the interests of Ukrainian athletes, who should compete on equal and fair terms, be well-informed, and fully protected both legally and administratively. This is the modern approach to anti-doping work in our country," said Sergii Popyk, the Director of NADC.

Working together, competing fairly!
