A Red Card for Doping: FC Polissya Plays Ahead of the Curve
The National Anti-Doping Center conducted an educational anti-doping session for the players, medical staff, and administrative personnel of FC Polissya. The focus of the event was on the prevention of anti-doping rule violations, athletes’ responsibility, and maintaining trust in Ukrainian football.
The session addressed not only anti-doping rules, but also real risks professional footballers may face, including the unintentional use of prohibited substances, self-medication, and the use of dietary supplements without proper verification. Particular attention was paid to the principle of strict liability — a fundamental element of anti-doping regulations, which means that athletes are responsible for everything that enters their bodies.
Participants were also informed about doping control procedures, athletes’ rights and responsibilities during testing, as well as the process for obtaining a Therapeutic Use Exemption in cases of medical necessity.
“Football is one of the most popular and influential sports in Ukraine. That is why it is important not to react to violations after they occur, but to work proactively. Educational activities with clubs are an investment in fair play, the protection of athletes, and the overall reputation of Ukrainian football,” said the Director of the National Anti-Doping Center Sergii Popyk.
