Doping Is Not Just a Positive Test: Fred Kerley Suspended

10 March 2026

The National Anti-Doping Center reminds everyone: anti-doping violations are not limited to positive test results. Athletes must also follow behavioral rules, including the obligation to provide accurate whereabouts information for doping control.

Two-time Olympic medalist in the 100 m, American sprinter Fred Kerley, has been suspended for two years for failing to comply with whereabouts requirements while being in the testing pool.

According to the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU), Kerley violated these rules three times between 11 May and 6 December 2024. Temporarily suspended from 12 August 2025, the athlete admitted missing the test in Munich on 13 June. In two other cases, he explained his absence due to technical issues with the USADA app or the failure of the doping control officer to locate him.

Fred Kerley’s suspension will last until 11 August 2027, and all results he achieved between 6 December 2024 and 12 August 2025 are disqualified. In addition, he must pay World Athletics £3,000 to cover legal and administrative costs.

Kerley is also a three-time World Champion in the 100 m (2022) and in the 4×400 m relay (2019 and 2023).

This case emphasizes that success in sport is impossible without fair play and adherence to anti-doping rules—including behavioral obligations.

Know the rules – play fair!
