Going Further Together: WADA Calls for Strengthened Cooperation in the Fight for Clean Sport

19 March 2025

The annual WADA symposium, taking place on March 18-19 in Lausanne, has gathered over 1,000 participants from around the world.

"This is my first time participating in such a large-scale international anti-doping event. The presentations, as well as the meetings and consultations held on the sidelines of the symposium, demonstrate not only the deep integration of Ukraine’s anti-doping program into the global fight for clean sport but also the full compliance of our center’s work with the World Anti-Doping Code and modern anti-doping requirements and trends," noted Kateryna Koval, Head of the Results Management Department at NADC Ukraine.

The key topics of the symposium’s sessions included the preparation and discussion of new versions of the Code and International Anti-Doping Standards. A defining trend in all these updates is the enhancement of the rights and protection of clean athletes. This very goal led to the establishment of the Athletes’ Council at NADC Ukraine and the introduction of the Ombudsman for Anti-Doping Affairs.

"We are closely monitoring the process of updating and preparing new editions of WADA’s key documents. Why? Because we must be both well-informed in advance and professionally prepared for their implementation and integration into Ukrainian legislation," said NADC Ukraine Director Serhiy Popyk.

During a meeting with WADA President Witold Bańka and WADA Director General Olivier Niggli, Serhiy Popyk shared insights on the practical efforts of the center in implementing the national anti-doping program. He also expressed gratitude for the solidarity project, which enables the testing of Ukrainian athletes living and training abroad.

The new versions of the World Anti-Doping Code and International Standards are expected to be approved by the end of 2025 and come into force on January 1, 2027.
