Towards International Standards: Government Supports the Update of Anti-Doping Legislation
On April 29, 2026, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the draft Law of Ukraine “On Amendments to the Law of Ukraine ‘On Anti-Doping Activities in Sport’”, developed by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine in cooperation with the National Anti-Doping Center.
The purpose of the draft law is to align national anti-doping legislation with the new edition of the World Anti-Doping Code and international standards that will come into force on January 1, 2027.
The document also provides for improving the functioning of the national anti-doping system and strengthening organizational mechanisms in the field of anti-doping activities.
In particular, the draft law proposes to:
— clarify the powers of the National Anti-Doping Center, the Nomination Committee, and the NADC Supervisory Board;
— introduce mandatory doping control stations during official sports competitions and training camps;
— establish clear requirements for persons conducting doping control;
— improve the organizational framework of anti-doping activities;
— provide the possibility of remuneration for members of anti-doping commissions and committees.
Special attention in the draft law is given to the international recognition of the institution — it is proposed to change the name of the National Anti-Doping Center to the “National Anti-Doping Center of Ukraine”.
The implementation of the draft law provisions will contribute to improving the effectiveness of the anti-doping system, protecting athletes’ rights, ensuring fair competition, and further strengthening Ukraine’s position in the global sports community.
Strong legislation means strong sport.
