Ukraine to Represent Europe in the WADA Executive Committee for the Next Three Years
On September 3, a regular meeting of the Special European Committee on World Anti-Doping Agency (CAHAMA) took place. The Committee members unanimously supported the candidacy of the head of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, Matviy Bidnyi, for his election to the WADA Executive Committee.
Matviy Bidnyi addressed the Committee members online, expressing gratitude to the countries that support Ukraine, particularly those that help organize the training process and conduct anti-doping testing for Ukrainian athletes.
The head of the Ministry of Youth and Sports emphasized that even in wartime, Ukraine continues to improve its anti-doping policy as one of its priority areas of activity. He noted that the recently adopted legislation, developed in cooperation with the Council of Europe and WADA, fully complies with international standards and the World Anti-Doping Code.
Matviy Bidnyi also shared his vision for future work in the WADA Executive Committee. He emphasized the importance of ensuring athletes' rights, their involvement in anti-doping activities, and providing them with proper educational tools: "WADA must seek consensus and establish close cooperation among all stakeholders, focus on building capacity at the national level, and develop more partnerships to build a stronger global anti-doping system."
"The support for the candidacy of the head of the Ministry of Youth and Sports for the WADA Executive Committee from Europe is not only a significant political decision in support of Ukraine but also recognition of the enormous and quality work carried out daily by the National Anti-Doping Center," said the Director of the National Anti-Doping Center, Serhiy Popyk, who participated in the CAHAMA meeting.
The final approval of the delegates from the Council of Europe to the Executive Committee is expected in October this year during the meeting of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.
