Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the NADC Established Cooperation: From Anti-Doping Education to Integrity in Sport

02 July 2024

On July 1, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the National Anti-Doping Center. The Memorandum aims to ensure the comprehensive implementation of the Council of Europe Anti-Doping Convention, the International Convention against Doping in Sport (UNESCO Convention), and national anti-doping legislation of Ukraine.

The cooperation will involve conducting educational and scientific events, implementing specialized courses on anti-doping topics, developing proposals for educational programs, and coordinating positions in the preparation of anti-doping regulatory projects. Additionally, both parties will work towards integrating international practices into national frameworks and fostering practical collaboration in the field of anti-doping scientific research and innovations, promoting clean sports.

"This Memorandum is an important step in strengthening cooperation between NADC and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, as it provides the necessary conditions for incorporating elements of anti-doping knowledge at both school and higher education levels. It enhances the professional training of physical culture and sports specialists as well as professional athletes. Improving anti-doping education measures and establishing systematic scientific research in anti-doping topics will help create an understanding of the importance of clean sports and fair competitions in the Ukrainian sports and academic environment," stated NADC Director Serhii Popyk.

"The challenges in combating doping and in the fields of education and upbringing are similar—we fight for integrity: you in sports, and we in the academic sphere. We demand this integrity, but we haven't always explained to those we demand it from what exactly a lack of integrity means. Those who are required to follow the rules must understand their level of responsibility. For Ukraine, this is a matter of national branding and recognition of national sports at the international level. Therefore, it is crucial that where serious and systematic sports activities begin, information about anti-doping measures should be professionally conveyed to teachers, lecturers, and coaches," stated Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Oksen Lisovyi.

The NADC Director and the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine also discussed prospects for conducting anti-doping scientific research and opportunities for cooperation with international partners.

The signing of the Memorandum demonstrates the shared commitment of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the National Anti-Doping Center to actively cooperate in conducting comprehensive anti-doping education in the country, establishing anti-doping scientific research in higher education, and promoting clean sports.

Let`s compete fairly!
