Sports doctors enhanced their knowledge on Therapeutic Use Exemptions
On November 12, a training session for sports doctors dedicated to the procedure for obtaining Therapeutic Use Exemptions (TUEs) was held in Kyiv. The event was organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine with the support of the National Anti-Doping Center (NADC).
The program combined theory and practice. In the first part, Kateryna Koval, NADC’s TUE Officer, focused on the key principles of working with the WADA Prohibited List, the algorithm for preparing TUE applications, and the mechanisms for their review.
Next, Volodymyr Sekretnyi, Chair of the TUE Committee, presented clinical approaches to prescribing prohibited substances and explained, using real cases, how to justify medical necessity and distinguish between prospective and retroactive TUEs. Of particular interest were practical case studies, where participants had to determine whether a given treatment required a TUE.
At the end of the event, the doctors completed a knowledge assessment test. Those who passed successfully will receive certificates.
The training brought together not only medical professionals but also coaches and sports officials, reflecting the growing interest in the topic of TUEs.
Organizers highlighted the participants’ engagement and high level of interaction — discussions, questions, and real-life examples demonstrated that anti-doping culture in Ukrainian sport continues to strengthen.
