“Ukraine’s Anti-Doping System Stands Strong Despite the War” — said Witold Bańka, WADA President
In an interview with the Ukrinform news agency, President of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Witold Bańka highly praised the work of the National Anti-Doping Center and the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine in maintaining the country’s anti-doping system even amid the full-scale war.
“We see strong commitment to anti-doping efforts from our Ukrainian colleagues, particularly the Ministry of Sports and the National Anti-Doping Center. After a challenging period in previous years, Ukraine has made significant progress — today, its system fully complies with the WADA Code. We have no concerns regarding their work,” emphasized Witold Bańka.
The WADA President also highlighted that, since the beginning of the war, the Agency immediately provided support to Ukraine, coordinating efforts with European anti-doping organizations — particularly POLADA — to ensure continued athlete testing.
“Ukraine’s anti-doping system continues to operate despite the war. It’s a symbol of strength, resilience, and professionalism. Ukraine shows that the fight for clean sport does not stop even in the most difficult times,” noted the WADA President.
In the interview, Bańka also discussed global challenges in anti-doping — including political pressure, technological advances in doping, and the emerging issue of genetic manipulation in sport.
“We continue to invest in science, explore new methods, use artificial intelligence, and work to combat genetic doping. Our goal is to make the global anti-doping system even stronger,” he added.
